My late New Year's Post

Wrote this post on the 5th while flying back to NYC. Life's been too crazy for me to get around to posting it. Anyway, here it is now.

I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. You don’t need to wait for a new year to come around to decide that your life needs to be changed. Every day is a new day. There is never any need to wait until a certain day to decide to diet or clean or exercise or put your dreams on paper. That being said, this year I’ve strangely decided to actually go the resolution route.
• 2012 is going to be my make it or break it year. If I don’t see myself booking acting / modeling jobs enough to justify living in NYC, then I don’t think I’m going to continue chasing down that dream in 2013.
• I’m going to get myself organized. Not so much to the extent that I’m going to let calendars and routines overrule my crazy schedule filled with last minute bookings and twelve hour work days, but to the point that I won’t let myself waste time on stressful situations that cannot be helped by my constant worry. If a task needs to be completed, then I have no reason to sit around fretting over a situation that I cannot control instead of completing said task. This is not to say that I will put more value on doing laundry than getting coffee with a friend, but simply that I will not let negative assumptions or sore feelings take up any of my time. Every moment in life is valuable; I don’t want to see any more time get wasted on things that I cannot change.
• I’m going to try to write out a list of what I need to get done for the next day every night or at least the morning of before I start out my day. This is one of those ones that I kind of doubt I’ll be able to keep during periods where I’m booking a lot of work, yet, even if I can implement this one every other week I think it would do a lot for my life.
My apologies for this sounding more like a science report than a blog post, but my mood at the moment is far too introspective and analytical for anything more creative or light to get typed up by my fingers.

I've totally been neglecting this blog lately....

So I believe I left off that I was doing a short film in May and here's the movie poster from that:

I also ended up having a walk on role for a pilot for a new Bravo dating show in June. More details to come if it ends up airing.

Also in June I did another test shoot for AUBE Cosmetics:

And then I ended up getting a gig as a model for a photography class in June as well:

Then in July I did a product testimonial for Carol's Daughter for HSN.

Outside of all that I've been booking promotions like crazy. That and I did a bit of extra work on I Just Want My Pants Back, Blue Bloods, and Smash.

I'm also trying to put together a legit website too, but until then I will be posting more frequent updates on this.

So it all started Friday morning. If you want to call 5:40 AM morning. :/ I got a lovely phone call from my mother to get up and watch the royal wedding and went on ahead and watched since I couldn't get back to sleep after that.

My thoughts on the wedding:

The dress was okay. I'm also not getting the Grace Kelly comparisons here. Yes, Kate Middleton is very pretty, but her dress was nowhere near as pretty as Grace Kelly's.

Here are the two dresses:

Although I'm not the biggest fan of Grace Kelly's dress, I think that it's as good as you can get if you want an overly formal sleeved dress. Kate Middleton's on the other hand had a bad attempt at being modern and I couldn't help but think her wedding veil looked like a funeral shroud. Not that I hated Kate Middleton's dress, but it was nothing that should be compared to Grace Kelly's which was far more lovely.

Anyway, after the wedding I was doing a stock photoshoot. What I thought would be a quick simple photoshoot turned into my craziest day on any set. In the middle of the shoot one of the models says she feels faint and sits down and passes out. She then has a seizure and everyone ran around trying to find out if she had a bracelet or card saying she was an epileptic or diabetic. Nothing was found and when she woke up she said it was normal and happens all the time and that it was all blood pressure related and that she just needed to eat. We all waited around for an ambulance and when they came, they said that she definitely needed to go to the hospital even if she had the condition she claimed she had and she threw a tantrum over only needing food and that it was normal and she wasn't like her epileptic brother who wasn't allowed to drive a car. Since she kept making the claim that she only needed to eat, the photographer offered to get her food which she was reluctant to take and when she finally agreed to take it, said she would eat in the taxi. The crew eventually talked her into eating there, and she ate a few small bites and put it in her bag and said she ate half of it. The photographer actually asked her to show him if she ate any of it and got upset over her not eating after denying medical care after she said it was all blood pressure (which the medics agreed was really low). Also, for anyone wondering if this is a case of lack of insurance, someone found her medical card when they were looking for something about her condition while on the phone with EMS. She then proceeded to take a train to Long Island for an UNPAID charity fashion show. Let me also point out that this girl was 23 and clearly not the right type for runway modeling. So she risked her life for what was essentially a waste of her time. Basically I felt like I was in a bizarre reality show, because you would think a scenario like that could only be staged.

After that the shoot when on a little longer and then I stupidly made the choice to go out after that. So the next morning when I had to get up at 6:00 AM for a legit reason like working at 7:00 AM I was completely drained. I ended up doing a promotion during the Womentum walk for cancer research. The job was pretty cool and I got to see Jessica Alba make a bad attempt at reading a teleprompter. Love her as an actress but they probably should have made sure she knew how to use a teleprompter before the event so she wouldn't have had to spend most of her speech with her eyes looking away from the camera.

After getting off at 1PM I managed to stay up for a few more hours until I eventually crashed. Woke up at 6AM again (this time not half asleep) and have for the most part had a pretty relaxing day - finally.

Also, I just recently booked a lead role in a short film. I'll be shooting most of this week.

Last night was pretty rad. First time in a while that I've worked a concert and it was luckily for a really amazing artist.

A few things I learned:

1. BAM Cafe is awesome, I can't believe I've never been to one of the free events there before last night.

3. My camera phone sometimes eats pictures. So, I did have photos from last night, but they are gone apparently. :/

So I randomly ended up getting free tickets for a Yankee's game by walking by a Pepsi promotion on my way home from getting a coffee. Lesson learned - coffee is good for life.

Levi's Chambray - The Official Sponsor of Sugar Daddies Everywhere

Now I'm not going to lie, seeing photos of an older moderately attractive man with a super young model pasted all over the Columbus Circle subway stop definitely caught my attention. And it did make me check out Levi's Chambray which was in all fairness a pretty awesome line.

But, really? Couldn't have they at least found an attractive male celebrity or older model or something? It looks like recession era average Joe sugar daddies are the new market everyone has to reach. It's like the Dove ads, but for sugar daddies. Like the somewhat curvy Dove girls, Levi's has a moderately attractive model that's slightly younger than their target so they actually have a somewhat realistic goal to aspire to.

Bubble Tea at Tease!!!

I'm not going to lie, I would never normally go out to 3rd Ave and 27th St just for a bubble tea. I do live in Chinatown and I could totally walk a few blocks for a pretty rad selection of bubble tea. However, my lovely friends at Tenka.com were giving away coupons to try one at Tease @ http://www.tenka.com/web/creative/redeemer-37783/762791.htm

Anyway, the bubble tea was awesome. I tried coconut with black tea served cold which was super yummy. It was a pretty cool place and the additional options of Thai iced coffee, a pretty good regular coffee selection, and pastries made it a lot more rad than my normal Chinatown spots.

Gizzi's!!!!!!

I'm still puzzled as to how my coffee addict self had never made it into Gizzi's Coffeehouse on 8th St and 5th Ave until today. I thought I had pretty much at one point or another gone to every coffeehouse even remotely close to NYU for a much needed caffeine boost, but somehow I hadn't noticed this one until today.

Coffee = pure awesome as far as taste goes. Nice strong brew with a smooth flavor. I hated not being able to put in my own cream though, for real, that's one of the many reasons I hate getting even the basically free coffee at McDonald's. But still, amazing coffee despite the lack of control I had over the milk situation.

The overall atmosphere was pretty rad too. Lots of seating and not enough people to fill every seat (so rare anywhere in NYC on the weekend), a nice mix of chill indie music playing, and a big screen TV playing Charlie Chaplin films. Even the somewhat crazy man humming or meditating or doing something with mouth noises at the table behind me didn't ruin my time there.

They also had the largest selection of blintzes I've seen outside of Greenpoint. I'll probably hit them up for lunch sometime soon to try them.

Updates on Life

1. Staying in NYC for the summer!! Currently in Stuytown about to move to Greenpoint in Brooklyn.

2. I've been booking tons of promos, this month alone American Airlines, Bobbi Brown 3 week gig, Self Magazine, Canadian Club Whiskey and I'm waiting for updates on a few more for the next couple of weeks. Also just joined a bunch of new agencies so I hopefully will be booking even more stuff.

3. Really wanting to spend my time getting serious with the whole acting / modeling thing. I have a shoot booked at the end of this month, just did a commercial for New Era today, and I'm about to send out headshots / resumes to local agencies.

Oh, and if you're in NYC you must try the iced Thai coffee at Thai Angel, probably the best coffee beverage on Earth.

So today I'm kind of taking a break from everything and just writing poetry for class, drinking mad amounts of coffee, and then other less interesting homework. My week was pretty normal, worked some for Bacardi, went to a lecture on post-dramatic theater and a literary career panel, and attempted to go to the MoMA but then the line for friday tickets was like a block long so I ditched that idea and went to Jamba Juice instead.

Spring Break is Coming to an End....

So I just stayed around NYC over break. I ended up doing a five day promo for Green Mountain Coffee though which was pretty sweet since I am the world's largest caffeine addict. Also when to Crash Mansion for the first time which was awesome, especially since it was open bar when we went down. And then tomorrow I am doing a photoshoot for designer Jen Marques. Also, auditioning for a film tomorrow too, hopefully that will go well.

Seriously, this is about as likely to happen as Satan rejecting people from hell. But of course my 8am class still happened because NYU waited this announcement until noon.

Ersi Sotiropoulos Reading at NYU

Tonight I went to a reading by Ersi from her book Sotiropoulos Landscape With Dog: And Other Stories. Admittedly, I hadn't read any of her work before so I didn't really know what to expect, but her short stories were simply amazing. From characters that adore men who admit to being uncomfortable with their weight to ones who think that Polanski kidnapped them and that they got pregnant at his place Rosemary's Baby style. The four stories that she read were all funny, original, and unexpectedly full of meaning.

Yeah, it was totally amazing. This happened on 11-11-09 at the Apple Store in Soho. Sadly my attempt at getting there an hour early failed and I ended up only getting there half an hour early so I was pretty far back in the crowd. Anyway, here are some photos from the event. Greek Theater, Promotions, and Weezer on Halloween!

First off, I will be playing Ismene in a skit from Antigone for my acting and directing class in a couple of weeks. Last I heard too I think that we are supposed to actually be singing the lines. haha, I'll post more once I have all of the details.

I just got free tickets to Weezer on Halloween from work. So awesome, so very very awesome. Oh and Lenny Kravitz tickets too.

It's been forever since I've last posted but I've been mad busy.

Set this up and promoted the event with my ReadyU partner. It was a pretty intense couple weeks of planning and promoting this thing, but it was a definite success and tons of people made it out.

So, when I was working the PNC promotion a lot of us couldn't resist playing dress up too. So here I am as a rockstar in an over-sized promotional shirt. It was a pretty cool promo, and they let me play photographer a bit which was pretty awesome.

In more recent news I just booked a promotion giving out samples of a juice drink at Whole Foods. So now I have to go and buy a chef's hat. :)

Life Updates

Monday through Wednesday I was working the SurFin (Surface finishings) convention at the downtown convention center. I got to play with the badge printer, it was amazing haha. Anyway, today I'm doing very little except finishing watching Superbad which I started last night. Tomorrow through Sunday I'm doing a promotion for PNC, which is set up like a mini-festival for kids with games and crafts.

I also did a photoshoot almost two weeks ago, but I'm still waiting on pictures from that. Oh oh, and I just got hired on as one of the NYU ReadyU campus reps for this fall.

First promotion since I've been back in Louisville. It was pretty cool, our team was in charge of Corona games and there was live local music across from us in the WAMZ tent. Outside of that right now I have a casting call to go to on Wednesday and I'm setting up TF shoots with a couple of photographers so I can build up my port.

Drinking Iced Tea in the South

So today I had a very delightful cup of mango iced tea at La Vida Java, which is this coffeehouse that I barely go to because it's like 20 minutes from me and buried in the suburbs of Louisville. Still though, some of the best flavored iced tea in Louisville (although Heine Brothers is pretty good too). It was sort of odd though because this time they were playing christian pop in the background which just didn't fit the otherwise fairly awesome coffeehouse atmosphere. Oh well. And then the barista was from the Bronx and was telling me about how he had almost gone to Columbia and then took a job at KFC headquarters or something. It's kind of interesting that everyone in Louisville has some sort of New York story that I would have never known if I hadn't have gone to NYU. Some of the stories are just basic "I was a tourist there once!" ones, but a lot of people are apparently either from there or went to school there or worked there for a while and just have to tell me if I mention that I'm at NYU. But what kills me is that people don't say this stuff before I mention that I just came back from New York. You should always point out the cool and impressive stuff that you do, not to brag, but because it's more interesting than what you normally do. That's kind of hypocritical of me to say I guess, but oh well.

This posting is really messy and I am rambling on about stupid stuff. Sorry guys.

If you don't understand the title of this post check out "Don't Trust Me" by 3OH!3. Such an awesome song and I totally could have heard them live if I hadn't been dying of a virus during bamboozle (more importantly I could have heard No Doubt as well).

Okay, so I lied in an earlier post, I wasn't supposed to hand out pie at a Holiday Inn, but instead at Penn Station and Madison Square Garden the Holiday Inn was only a meeting place.

Oh, and I am home now and I need a new job in Louisville. If anyone can help me with this let me know. I always hate this, I leave like 2 solid jobs with promotions on the side in New York for a summer of uncertainty every year.

Also, I just did a photoshoot in Louisville for the reality show First 48. Awesome fun, awesome meals, and awesome pay. If only I could do that every single day. Photos of the whole thing are posted as of now!

Au Revoir Sophomore Year!

Quite possibly the busiest year of my life has ended. Anyway, I am hanging around the city until Friday morning, quite possibly doing nothing except a promotion where I give out free pie at a Holiday Inn (hell yeah! lol) and then the regular drill of giving out flyers outside of concerts. I have nothing interesting to say right now and I am still tired from Monday's finals for no logical reason.

Stereo Total at Fillmore!!!!!!!!

Seriously, best show ever!! I managed to get in the front row too right after the Leslie and the Ly's crowd left (or more likely went to get more drinks). Anyway, obviously it sounded amazing because it was Stereo Total and they are the best band in the world, but seriously it would have been fun even if they had sucked. Brezel Göring completely ran around the theater using the wall, pipes and crowd barricade like a drum (this wasn't stupid, it completely worked). They also let the first couple of rows dance on stage (Göring actually pulled me on before he went crowd surfing) during Wir Tanzen Im 4-Eck. Oh and they through a couple of girls from the audience on stage to dance with them during L'Amore a Trois. Small crowd because they have the tiniest fan base in America for some unknown reason, they were all for having fun with the crowd, and as expected they sounded pretty awesome too.
